Direct-to-consumer drop platform for a major music-and-fashion brand. Under NDA.
## Context
Worked on the direct-to-consumer e-commerce platform for a major music-and-fashion brand drop in 2024. The engagement is under NDA — what follows describes role and technical scope at the level the agreement permits, not the brand or specific product details.
## Approach
The work fell into three buckets.
### Storefront performance
A drop-day storefront has a load profile that doesn't look like normal e-commerce. Traffic is concentrated into a single window. The cart and checkout paths have to hold under spike, the product catalog has to render fast on first paint, and the shopping experience has to feel instantaneous even as inventory updates ripple in real time.
I worked on rendering performance, asset delivery, and client-side state management on the storefront — the surface customers see on the day of the drop.
### Checkout flow
Checkout under spike is its own engineering problem. I touched the flow that customers move through after they've added items to their cart — the steps where conversion is most sensitive to latency, where errors are most expensive, and where the platform's reliability story has to be ironclad.
### Drop-day load handling
The infrastructure side: working alongside the platform team to make sure the storefront held under the actual traffic curve when the drop went live. Pre-warming, queueing where appropriate, and graceful degradation on the paths that couldn't be made infinitely scalable.
## Outcome
The drop went live and held. Specifics on revenue, conversion, traffic, and the brand are NDA'd.
For employers and prospects: this work shows comfort with high-stakes, high-traffic e-commerce engineering on a confidential brand engagement — a different kind of pressure than incremental feature work, with different failure modes and different reward.
